Dr. Jean Olivier Twahirwa Rwema
Dr. Rwema received his medical degree from the National University of Rwanda and his MPH from Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Infectious Disease Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Rwema previously oversaw Rwanda's national prevention program for mother-to-child transmission of HIV for two years, during which the country achieved the global targets of reducing the national HIV vertical transmission rate to less than 2%. Dr. Rwema's current research interests are understanding the distribution of HIV and other Sexually Transmitted infections and blood-borne infections, including Hepatitis B and C risks, as well as the implementation of prevention and treatment programs for these infections across Sub-Saharan Africa. Dr. Rwema is a member of the Surveillance and Outbreak Response team at Johns Hopkins University.
